Paediatric epilepsy research at the NCYPE
The NCYPE’s ambition is to become renowned for its contribution to research into the medical, educational and social aspects of childhood epilepsy. Our epilepsy research programme works integrally with UCL-Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
We aim to enhance and diversify the current paediatric epilepsy research programme. The research is led by several leading professionals in the field: Professor Helen Cross, Professor Brian Neville, Professor Charles Newton, Dr. Rod Scott and Dr Richard Chin.
Current research projects include:
-
The impact of reducing anti-epileptic drug load on quality of life in children with refractory epilepsy
Educational problems of children with epilepsy: their identification and management
Prevalence and clinical outcome of Rasmussen Encephalitis in children
Beyond IQ: Cognitive-behavioural profiles of children with complex epilepsy and intellectual disability
Epilepsy genomics in childhood: finding the causes, directing treatment
Long term outcomes of childhood status epilepticus
Epilepsy in infancy: Spectrum of aetiologies, natural history and outcome predictors
Childhood status epilepticus outcomes: prevalence & spectrum
Landau Kleffner Syndrome: study of active phase and outcomes
Epidemiology and treatment of epilepsy in sub-Saharan Africa
Central to the research programme is the ability to apply for and manage research grants and funding and we currently have a number of projects under consideration for funding grants.
